Ex-NRL Star's Spouse Sentenced to Eight Months Imprisonment

Details of Crime and Punishment

The wife of former National Rugby League (NRL) player David Fifita has been sentenced to eight months in jail for defrauding the government of funds. The woman, whose name has not been released, was found guilty of fraudulently obtaining payments from Centrelink, a government agency that provides financial assistance to low-income individuals and families.

The court heard that the woman had claimed welfare benefits under a false identity and had received over $100,000 in payments she was not entitled to. She pleaded guilty to 16 counts of fraud and was sentenced to an eight-month jail term, to be served under house arrest due to medical conditions.
